North Word Literary Festival present Writers' Workshop 9am-11:30 Novel Writing with David Layton David Layton is the author of three critically acclaimed books, two fo which are novels. The Bird Factory was published in 2005 and more Bloodlines was published in the spring of 2012. He has also had numerous short fiction and articles published and anthologized in various literary journals, newspapers and magazines. David now works as a Writing professor at the University Of Toronto. David will be speaking on the techniques needed to keep your novel going and sustain several hundred pages of prose. Topics such as the use (and abuse) of plot, narrative arc, character, writer’s voice, and dramatic dialogue will be examined. 11.30am-1.30pm Getting Published and Lunch (for all day participants only) Carolyn Forde is an author and literary agent. She has had her short fiction published in numerous magazines, however, now focusses her attention on her work at Canada's largest literary agency, Westwood Creative Artists. Carolyn has been in the publishing industry now for 10 years and with Westwood Creative for 7. Carolyn will be conducting an information session on getting published in the various genres. 1.30-3.30 Break-out workshop sessions. Particpants choose which workshop they would like to attend. 1.
